About Lion’s Mane Extracts

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) has historically been prepared in food and extract forms. Modern products can vary significantly depending on the mushroom material used (fruiting body vs. mycelium) and the extraction method (water, alcohol, or combined processes).

For a deeper explanation of how lion’s mane mushroom materials are used in extracts, including differences between fruiting body and full-spectrum approaches, see our full-spectrum vs fruiting body guide.

Lion’s Mane Tincture: Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between a dual‑extract and a triple‑extract tincture?

A dual‑extract typically uses water and alcohol. A triple‑extraction process includes an additional extraction step to improve compound solubility from the mushroom material, while maintaining a consistent liquid format.

2) Why does Annanda use 100% fruiting bodies?

Fruiting bodies are the mature mushroom structure. Many supplements use mycelium grown on grain, which can include residual starch. Annanda uses only fruiting bodies for purity and transparency.

3) Where can I learn about Lion’s Mane safety and side effects?

Individual circumstances vary. For a thoughtful overview of sensitivities, interactions, and when to use extra caution, see:

Reviews

Love the taste of this organic Lion’s mane tincture

"I have been taking Lion’s mane on and off for several years. Because of certain medications when I was in my 20s I was told my memory will suffer later in life. Yes, I did sign papers that I agree with that in order to get the treatment. I’ve been taking mostly capsules in the past but I prefer the tincture. It’s easy to take twice a day and it has a sweet taste. I cannot tell if it helps or not, but so far I can’t complain. I will keep purchasing as I trust his Canadian made product."

Keep it coming

"I bought some actual Lion's Mane mushroom out here in B C. At a farmers market. Tasty as it was, it was short-lived, and frankly price restrictive for me, compared to results with your LionsMane Tincture. I use it for extreme pain in knee joints etc topically and under the tongue. Sleep is much improved, and daily activity not hampered by high level of pain I endure. Have cut relying on pharma pain pills, to 1/4 my usual dosage. Can't Thank you enough! Even my orthopedic surgeon is quite interested in seeing how things go after my 1st knee surgery in July or August!Using tinctures to reduce pain and dependency on Pharma medications for pain control."

Q&A

In the description section of your Lion’s Mane Extract it says “100% fruiting body”, but in a 2023 Q&A your response says you use both fruiting body and mycelium. I’m confused. Aren’t these statements contradictory?
We use the entire fruiting body of our mushrooms. There will be traces of mycelium naturally present.
how do you process your lions mane and do you use the roots also?
we include both the fruiting body and mycelium in our extracts
My daughter has a chronic painful condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia. I read in a post that 1000mg of Lion's Mane and 1000mg of Taurine plus 1000mg of B complex daily would be beneficial. How would this convert to drops?
Our mushroom products are certified organic; their constitutes are mostly unmeasurable by science.
Is there a Lion's Mane tea?
We currently do not offer lion's mane in a tea; but do offer a [Lion's Mane Extract](https://www.annandachaga.com/collections/lions-mane-mushrooms/products/lions-mane-mushroom)
How is this product for someone who just got operated with a brain tumor? Any experience with it?
Both Lion's mane and Chaga are very good for brain health.
